The Universal Pre-kindergarten and Head Start classes enjoyed receiving their February book with a special reading from the author! Susan Luther Keisel, local author and photographer read her recently published book, “The Many Faces of Snowy Owls” to each classroom. This month’s book selection and reading by Mrs. Keisel was truly a special treat enjoyed by all of the preschoolers. The Sauquoit Valley Foundation thanks Mrs. Keisel for her time and wonderful book!

Each month the Sauquoit Valley Foundation purchases and gives children ages 4-5 within the district, their own copy of the selected book of the month. Guest readers come to read to each classroom. Currently, 75 books per month are given to children in the Pre-K and Head Start classes or are mailed home to students not attending these programs. This program, “Read to Succeed” is an ongoing program of the Sauquoit Valley Foundation and seeks to encourage a lifelong interest in reading. To date, over 5,000 books have been given out to our district children! The Foundation looks forward to that number continuing to grow!

The Sauquoit Valley Foundation is pleased to be a recipient of a $2,500 grant from the Mele Family Fund, a donor advised fund of The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida Counties, Inc. The Sauquoit Valley Foundation is sincerely grateful for receiving this grant to help continue the “Read to Succeed” program.

Are you longing for spring planting? Place your order now to “plant” an engraved brick in the community walkway surrounding the athletic stadium to commemorate a special event, celebration, or to honor a loved one! The brick is a permanent acknowledgement of that special time or person. It is a fantastic way to acknowledge a person’s life or efforts within the school or community! The Sauquoit Valley Foundation continues to sell engraved bricks and will have a spring installation of bricks ordered from the fall through this spring. Order your bricks now and pave the way, becoming part of the community walkway! Two sizes of bricks are available for purchase at www.sauquoitvalleyfoundation.org or by contacting a Board member.
The Sauquoit Valley Foundation 11th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on July 20th 2015 at Cedar Lake Club. Visit our website at www.sauquoitvalleyfoundation.org for updated information on this and all our events.
The Sauquoit Valley Foundation meetings are held at the high school library at 7 pm on the first Monday of the month. All residents of the district are welcome! The Sauquoit Valley Foundation continues to welcome new members who want to bring new ideas for the schools and community and help those ideas come to fruition.
